San Francisco Refrigerator Magnet — Just Launched!

After a long wait, I’m excited to finally share that the San Francisco refrigerator magnets are now available in the shop! This design has been one of my most personal projects—born from a powerful memory, refined through many sketches, and shaped by the realities of production.

San Francisco is a city full of iconic moments, but Lombard Street left the deepest impression on me. I still remember the first time I climbed it—from the bottom all the way to the top. The slope was steep, the curves were dramatic, and the hydrangeas blooming on both sides made the entire street feel like a flowing ribbon of color. It was one of those places that stays with you, long after you leave. So when I started designing a magnet for San Francisco, I knew Lombard Street had to be at the heart of it.

The concept began with a drone photograph I once saw—an overhead view of the twisting road that extended toward the ocean. The perspective was mesmerizing. I wanted to capture that same graceful, snake-like movement, surrounded by lush hydrangeas in shades of blue, purple, and pink. That became the foundation of the design.

As the illustration evolved, I began collaging more of the city’s identity into one scene:

  • The cable car, a symbol of the city’s charm
  • the Golden Gate Bridge rising proudly in the background
  • the downtown skyline grounding the design with architectural presence

Of course, not everything in the design reflects real-life placement. The cable car doesn’t actually run on Lombard Street, and in the final mold we even had to flip it at one point due to structural limits. The curves of Lombard had to be smoothed out so the enamel could fill cleanly and the cable car could fit. Many details—big and small—were adjusted to make sure the final piece was both beautiful and manufacturable.

Even with these compromises, I believe the magnet still carries the essence of what I wanted to express:
a colorful, joyful memory of San Francisco—its flowers, its slopes, its icons, and its spirit.

This magnet is a little love letter to the city. I hope it brings you the same warmth and nostalgia it brings me.
